ETH Life renamed to ETH News

A thermoelectric materials emulator

Converting heat directly into power could be a major source of renewable energy. Physicists at ETH Zurich now have simulated new materials that are highly efficient in this transition – in an experiment with cold atoms trapped by lasers. 24.10.13

20.09.13 Lino Guzzella appointed President of ETH Zurich

The Swiss Federal Council has appointed Lino Guzzella, ETH Rector and Professor of Thermotronics, as the future ETH President. He will be taking over from Ralph Eichler who is retiring at the end of 2014. By taking this decision, the Swiss Government has endorsed the unanimous proposal made by the ETH Board.

On Monday, 2,706 new students will begin their undergraduate studies at ETH Zurich. As a result, the number of new entrants remains as high as ever. This year, the total number of students will break the 18,000 threshold for the first time.

12.09.13 The efficient choice among combustion engines

Researchers at ETH Zurich have developed an internal combustion engine that emits less than half the CO2 compared to a regular engine without compromising performance. This corresponds to fuel consumption of less than 2.4 l per 100 km.
